I’m Finoula Maestre Osorio!

You can call me Finzy. I am a Biomedical Scientist and a holistic health advocate. I have a Master of Science in Cancer Research and I am currently performing a PhD on immunotherapy for cutaneous melanoma (a form of skin cancer). This is my journey towards discovering how to live my healthy dream life – one that is healthy, anticancer, beautiful, meaningful, filled with love, travel, inspiration, and wonderful people.

This website is about personal growth, development & healthy dream lifestyle creation. Here, I share weekly (every Wednesday, Sundays in Youtube) some health advices that help to prevent cancer, I talk about the benefits of Keto Diet and how to do it and some advices regarding womb health and self-love, so that you can become your best self and fulfil the goal of living your healthy dream life. I create videos, podcasts, magazines and lifestyle tools to help you design your healthy life and be the best version of yourself.

What I believe In …

  • building simple habits that help you take baby steps towards creating the life you want.

  • using technology to your advantage rather than as a distraction.

  • letting your emotions and feelings flow, learn to feel them and express them in a healthy way, even when you had a bad day.

  • focus on the positive side and staying calm, avoiding stress and anxiety as much as possible.

Living the life that we want and working towards our dreams shouldn’t be about working non-stop and reaching burn out. It should be a path that we enjoy, even if it means that we have to work hard sometimes, you and your wellbeing always come first.

Life is a science – create your own view.

It is important that we take time to take care of ourselves, we are the ones getting up every morning to work and fight for our dreams, so if we do not take care of ourselves, how will we achieve this?

It is completely okay to have days when we are not okay, and when we just need to be on the sofa binge-watching our favourite tv show or movie.
Everyone is different, what works for others does not mean that It will necessarily work for you, but together we can explore what feels right to you, leave behind what no longer serves you, and build your own healthy dream life. One that you’re beyond happy to wake up to everyday.

My pillars for healthy living

  • BOOST IMMUNE SYSTEM

Our immune system Is our defence, what keeps us strong. It fights against microorganisms and diseases to keep us healthy. And there are some things that we can do to keep our immune system healthy and strong.

  • HEALHY WOMB

For some of us, our womb is a big part of who we are. And it tells us so much about our health, no to mention, the diseases we can have in our womb if we do not take care of it properly.

  • HEALTHY DIET

Food is medicine. Understanding how your metabolism works and what foods are the best for you, are crucial in order to live a healthy life. There are so many foods and brand out there, we need to be careful with what we consume.

  • YOGA & MEDITATION

Stress and anxiety are one of the main causes of chronic diseases, such as cancer. It is so important to take care of our mental health and check in with our feelings and emotions. So little is known and there is not enough awareness regarding this field. That is why it is so important for me and part of having an overall wellbeing.

  • SELF CARE

It is time to normalise kindness to oneself. As I oftenly say, you are the one getting up everyday to work on your dreams, if you do not take care of yourself and keep yourself loved, strong and healthy, how will you accomplish this?

  • SELF LEARNING

As a Biomedical Scientist, it is important that I keep an open mind. And I think you should too. Things change and new things are discovered with time. What could be considered to be healthy in the past may not be healthy now, and who knows in the future. I think that in order for you to be healthy, it is important that you constantly do your own research and see things for yourself.

I have never escaped my deep curiosity for the science and health world throughout my entire life. It started out when I was five years old, my parents noticed my interest and love for this subject and gave me as a Christmas present: a microscope. I was so thrilled with my gift that I examined just about everything I could fit in the microscope; I spent hours and hours locked in my room looking and searching through the ocular lens to see what I could learn. At home, when I was a little girl there was a time my sister and I had to be in bed in order to be able to get up the next day to go to school, I hid under my bed with my microscope because I hadn ́t finished my research and experiments of the day. Due to this, my parents have guided me along the way to study what I was passionate about ever since they saw that light coming from underneath the door and quietly opened to figure out what that little girl was doing.

When time passed, my interest in diseases grew more and more, I couldn ́t understand how we could get ill or how people could die because of them. At the age of ten my mother left me in a public library with other kids to play while she did her shopping, when she came back she couldn ́t find me and asked the librarian where I was, it turned out I was “reading” college books about illnesses. For instance, my unanswered question was: why did my grandpa die when I was three years old? I haven ́t been able to talk to him, or spend time with him, or even most importantly, learn from him and show him my love. My dad explained to me that the cause of death was lung cancer.

Later, my grandmother died because of stomach cancer when I was 17 years old, she was my best friend and cancer took her away from me. That was the moment when I said to myself: I have to do something; I need to help to stop this disease from taking away our loved ones and also to help them have the opportunity to live their lives.

I reached to the conclusion that the best contribution I could make personally to saving lives would be to form a career in cancer research and help people to live and anticancer lifestyle. To this effect, I decided to study Biochemistry with biomedical orientation, later on a MSc in Cancer Pharmacology and, currently, I am performing a PhD on cancer immunotherapy.

How this website begun…

Studying my degree and master has taken me several years and I still haven’t finished my studies, meaning I still have a long way to fulfil my career goals and since I don’t want to wait that long till I can actually help people I created My Science Closet, back in 2017, to share all the knowledge and inspiration that sprouts from this beautiful journey of mine towards my own personal healthy dream life, so that it could perhaps empower people to embrace their healthy lifestyle by taking care of their diet, fitness life and wellness in order to be healthy overall.

My Science Closet, was a blog, and as time passed and I worked with different coaches for business, I learned that I was my own brand. So in during 2020 and 2021 it was time to say goodbye to My Science Closet, and build this website with different sections in it: the blog, my videos on YouTube, a monthly podcast (Health Reflections), a magazine dedicated to women’s health, some online offerings I created to helps us on this journey and some programs that are currently being baked for you to have another source to get educated on the field.

I believe we all have the power to envision and create our healthy dream life. Just take care of yourself, love yourself, listen to your body, your heart and your mind, this will help to follow your very own path towards the life that you truly want to live.

This website is to all the healthy life dreamers.

Being a healthy life dreamer is using your very own power and freedom to envision, design and create your personal lifestyle which is healthy but not just with exercising or just being careful with what you eat.

But using self expression to show who you are to the world and love yourself, create your journey and your path towards that dream life that lives in your mind.

Starting with what you have, with what is given to you, learning, getting inspiration from different resources and little by little being healthy in your stomach, in your muscle, in your heart and in your mind.

Learn to enjoy the journey towards where you are going, it doesn’t matter if you find yourself lost at some point, embrace it, listen to your body and your heart and you’ll get back on track. Live the process.

This process of guiding yourself to a life that you love, that is perfect and suitable for you and then, of course, one that makes you happy. Think about it, life really is a Science.
